- Click the start button, and then click the settings gear
- Click "Updates & Security"
- Click "Windows Update" in the left column
- Click the rectangular gray button in the right column. NOTE: This button could say a variety of things, including (but not limited to) "Check for updates", "Restart now", or "Download". What it says doesn't matter yet; we want to click it! Below are a few different version of what this might look like.
- Repeat step 4 (or, if you've rebooted, steps 1-4), until BOTH of the following are true, twice in a row:
- button says "Check for updates"
- "Last checked" time shows the current time
